Ideally, each future event will have some basis in fact or reasonable conjecture. This might mean extrapolating some current trend to a greater point or extreme - or it might mean hypothesizing that a certain event might occur at some point in the future. Obviously, a certain degree of logic, even in the absence of perfect knowledge of the future, makes such future scenario generation more reasonable and useful.
